A Historic Day for OSU Agriculture

On January 15, 2020, Oklahoma State University recognized Kayleen and Larry Ferguson and the Ferguson Family Foundation for their $50 million commitment to endow and rename the Ferguson College of Agriculture and provide the lead gift for the New Frontiers campaign. The gift ensures the Ferguson College will compete with the best agricultural science and natural resource programs in the country and world.

At the time of the announcement, about $30 million had been raised for the building, including the $25 million facilities portion of the Ferguson’s gift and commitments from five Cornerstone Donors, who have pledged at least $1 million to the project. Larry and Kayleen encouraged fellow members of the Cowboy family to join them in their efforts to feed the world by elevating the Ferguson College of Agriculture.

Paving a Road to Success

Over the past decade, The Botanic Garden has woven itself into the fabric of Oklahoma State University and the city of Stillwater’s cultural identity. The Botanic Garden Road Project is the next step to continue elevating this community treasure, which has all been made possible by the generosity of others.

This project will create a road leading guests closer to the garden’s entrance and a new parking lot. The Botanic Garden Road Project improves accessibility to the garden and better meeting the needs of this growing icon, frequently serves as a bridge between the university and Stillwater communities.

Meet the Dean

Lusk Jayson Dr.

Dr. Jayson Lusk is vice president and dean of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University. Lusk provides leadership for the Ferguson College of Agriculture, including overseeing academic programs as well as Extension and agricultural research efforts on campus and statewide.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to come home to a place where I worked for 13 years and help build on the foundation in place to move the college and our state forward. It’s an opportunity to make an impact and to make a difference. It’s also a place where the students, faculty and staff are doing good things, and OSU Agriculture is well positioned with support of alumni and stakeholders to have an even bigger impact in Oklahoma and beyond.”

He earned a bachelor’s degree in food technology from Texas Tech University and a doctorate in agricultural economics from Kansas State University.

During his career, Lusk has been a prominent advocate for agricultural research and innovation, publishing more than 270 articles in peer-reviewed journals and five books. He has also served on the executive committee of the USDA National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education and Economics Advisory Board.
