Kirk and Jan Jewell '73,
Kirk is President and CEO of the OSU Foundation
I have given this some thought, and I cannot say for certain if I am more motivated to give to OSU because of priority or duty.
Since Jan and I met and married while we were students at OSU, and both of our sons have OSU degrees, this university has always been a priority in our lives. My term as national president of the OSU Alumni Association further deepened that commitment. We have always been orange. I still support the Alumni Association philanthropically, while Jan’s passion is the College of Education and training teachers … and, of course, OSU sports. Jan is a serious OSU sports fan.
Since joining the OSU Foundation, I have also become much more aware of the duty we have to give back to the institution that has opened so many doors for us. There is so much more need for scholarships and program support than I ever understood before arriving here in 2003. Jan and I are blessed to be able to give back, and we feel an obligation to do so.
My final reason would be how it feels when we give. We are very grateful to be able to give. And, we are honored to play a role in changing lives and futures and to be connected to something as important and impacting as OSU.
It is not easy to explain, but it is easy to know that we should.
