One of the most satisfying things my husband, John and I have done in recent years is to establish an endowment fund for the OSU Library. There came a time in our lives when we realized we had more than enough ties, tools, trinkets and “things”. Always believing it is important to support causes and institutions that are meaningful to us, we decided we would make donations to honor each other on some of our usual gift giving occasions.
After giving a donation to the OSU Library, an institution that is dear to both our hearts, to honor John on his birthday, I learned that we could, with payments over a number of years, establish an endowment that would be perpetuated over time and become a true family legacy.
We began our endowment fund with birthday and Christmas gifts to each other. We were especially pleased and proud when on several gift occasions our adult children (all OSU graduates), also added to our endowment fund. While it did take a number of years for the fund to become fully funded, we were surprised how easy and gratifying it was to accomplish. We intend to continue adding to our endowed fund for the OSU Library and may even start others for our separate colleges. We found establishing an OSU endowment fund is well within the means of anyone wishing to do so.
