Bob Hamm '55 & '62,
OSU Faculty Emeritus

My story is very old and I am sure everyone has heard it by now.  But, as a faculty member, I often heard stories of students who were experiencing difficulty staying in school because of lack of funds.  Early in my career, I established a $50,000 insurance policy.  Then when I retired, my former students established a scholarship fund for the three levels of students with which I had taught: Doctoral, MBA and undergraduate marketing students.  I was glad to participate in that scholarship program along with my son Kevin. On my return to OSU and the OSUF, I learned of an exiting program in the School for International Studies (SIS) which needed funds to support the growth of international studies at OSU and was glad to establish three Ambassadorships, a fund which supports the SIS.  It was an opportunity for me to meet some outstanding international leaders such as the Consulate General from Japan and others. I probably should mention that having taught for several years in China and Jordan and Russia that I sponsored a Russian to attend the SIS school and this money was partially used to support him.  He was my interpreter while there.  My interpreter in China also came to OSU and received a master’s in Hotel Adm. And I also sponsored him.  International is my big love and they appreciated what we do for them and are SERIOUS students. There is of course, a tremendous need for funds to build a new business school building as they are now housed in five different buildings on campus and have over 4,700 students.  The State cannot do things alone; we must give back to our university in various colleges in order for the growth to be substantial.  I encourage all my friends to participate in giving, it makes two people winners.
