OSU Foundation Elects New Chairman of the Board

Tulsa resident Monty Butts will assume leadership of the Board of Governors

Oklahoma State University (OSU) Foundation announced the election of Tulsa resident Monty Butts as chairman of the 2007-2008 Board of Trustees at an October meeting in Stillwater.

“We are honored and humbled to have someone of Monty’s dedication and capability leading our organization,” said Kirk A. Jewell, OSU Foundation president and CEO. “He brings passion and enthusiasm to the position of chairman and promises to help us capitalize on the success we have seen in recent years and advance both OSU and the Foundation toward new heights in providing an outstanding higher education experience at OSU.”

Butts is a native of Western Oklahoma.  He began his professional career in a management training program for Foley’s in Houston before returning to Oklahoma in the 1970s to pursue opportunities in investment securities .  Today, Butts is the senior vice president and director of fixed income for Capital Advisors in Tulsa where he has been employed for the past 20 years.

With nearly 10 years of service as a governor and trustee for the foundation, Butts has served in many leadership roles in preparation for his tenure as chairman.

“I will endeavor to ensure that we remain donor-centered, consistent with our core values, transparent in our stewardship of contributed funds and committed to achieving priorities established by the university,” Butts said.

In addition, Butts has assumed a personal goal of better relating the governors to the philanthropic opportunities and responsibilities of the Foundation.

“As incoming chair I want to get our governors engaged in a more direct manner to gauge their willingness to be involved and to gain their input regarding our development officers’ ability to work with volunteers to achieve our fundraising objectives,” he said. “At the foundation, we believe our volunteers will play a larger and larger role in development activities and the growth we expect to experience in philanthropy and our investment returns.”

The OSU Foundation Board of Governors is comprised of 99 men and women whose leadership and commitment to the university are demonstrated through achievement in business, steadfast financial support and a motivation to enhance the programs and initiatives of the Foundation.  Governors are leaders who have an avid interest in advancing higher education and demonstrate personal ties and dedication to Oklahoma State University.  Among the governors, 19 trustees are selected to act as the governing body of the organization and comprise the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Oklahoma State University Foundation serves as the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents.  Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
