ORANGE PASSION: Botanic Garden
5 Things To Know About The Botanic Garden At OSU
The Botanic Garden at OSU is Stillwater’s best kept secret. Located just west of campus off highway 51. Come check us out! Open dawn to dusk.
Here are 5 things you should know about the Botanic Gardens at OSU!
1. The Botanic Garden is a great place to enjoy live music
Each spring and fall The Botanic Garden at OSU hosts a concert series featuring music of varied genres. Concerts are usually at 5:45 pm on Friday evenings and concert goers are welcome to bring a picnic basket or enjoy the fare from local food trucks. A picnic blanket or a lawn chair is recommended (bring your own) for sitting in the shade under the beautiful sycamore trees to make the most of these enchanted evenings.
For a schedule of concerts visit: botanicgarden.okstate.edu.
2. The Botanic Garden at OSU is a great place to volunteer and share your love of horticulture
Volunteers at TBG are called Ambassadors and they as a group donate thousands of hours each year to TBG. They also have a lot of fun. Ambassadors enjoy a monthly lecture series and potluck breakfast as well as a few fieldtrips each year. Some Ambassadors love working in our gardens pulling weeds, or potting up plants in the greenhouse on a cold winter day. Others enjoy giving tours or hosting Open Houses on a Saturday.
We couldn’t survive without them and we always welcome new recruits. Contact Laura Payne (405-744-4531) for information about how to become a volunteer.
3. The Botanic Garden at OSU is a place for wellness
Whether it’s hunting Pokémon, strolling with your dog, or meeting for Thursday evening yoga, TBG provides many activities to keep the body and mind engaged. The Botanic Garden is open from dawn to dusk so there is ample opportunity to enjoy the unstructured activities of walking the trail or the newly installed labyrinth. The trail that loops from the Highway 51 parking lot up to the gardens is almost half a mile so it is great if you’re trying to keep track of your activity. On Thursday evenings in the spring and fall The OSU Department of Wellness sponsors Yoga in the Garden, a guided and free class open to all.
For a schedule of activities visit: botanicgarden.okstate.edu or check us out on Facebook.
4. Open House - Saturday, May 20
Come explore the new and exciting additions to the garden and make sure to check out the new Model Train Garden! Ambassadors will be in the garden to welcome you and answer your gardening questions.
